Is this summer season not hot enough for you?  Here is another way to sweat.

Translation Challenge – Call for Haiku Translation Submission

STIBC International Translation Day Project 2017

Haiku is a short form of poetry that originates in Japan.  Although haiku has been appreciated by an increasing number of people around the world, you don’t have much opportunity to translate it.

STIBC is honoured to collaborate with the Vancouver Haiku Group (VHG) and present their haiku poems in English as the translation text to our members for this year’s International Translation Day project.  The haiku collection for this project is named ‘Seasons in Canada’ to mark the 150th anniversary of the country.

If you would like to participate, please translate the haiku poems HERE into one language that you are most fluent and submit your translation to [email protected]  By participating in this translation challenge, you will

  • enjoy the haiku poems by the members of the VHG,
  • gain research skills to properly translate a new genre,
  • explore the challenge of poetry translation,
  • earn 3 CE credits if you are a Certified Member, and
  • may be invited to the Translation Slam to read your translation in the presence of the VHG members.

  * Translation submission of a minimum 10 haiku poems from the list by the deadline is required.

Submission deadline EXTENDED to 10 am on Monday, 11 September 2017.

Here is some information about haiku, http://www.vcbf.ca/community-event/haiku-invitational/about-haiku in case you are not sure where to start.

We are looking forward to receiving your submission!
