The feedback we have received from the CTTIC Court Interpreting Oral exam candidates is that more training in the simultaneous area is warranted. The exam results also attest to this need.
As such, STIBC has worked with VCC to offer a 5-week course which will hopefully help our members in their career development and better prepare them for the CTTIC exam.

Simultaneous Court Interpreting (Accelerated) (INTP 1107)
This accelerated course is designed for practicing interpreters to acquire the techniques of simultaneous interpreting to be used in a court setting. Participants will practice simultaneous interpreting using active listening, comprehension, memory, note-taking, paraphrasing, shadowing and dual tasking skills. The course provides opportunity to work with court discourses of various nature, content and style. These include information, indictments, witness testimonials, show cause hearings, and judge’s addresses to the jury. Participants will gain strategies and self-evaluation skills which they can use for further practice of simultaneous interpreting.
This 5-week course was jointly developed by VCC and STIBC and will be beneficial to those preparing for the CTTIC Court Interpreting Oral exam.
